Aluminum extrusion is a manufacturing process in which aluminum alloys are forced through a die under high pressure to form profiles with specific cross-sectional shapes.

• Die preheating: Dies, usually made of hardened steel, are heated to 450-500°C to ensure smoother metal flow and extend die life.

After billets are preheated, they are placed into the extrusion press, where a hydraulic ram forces the billet through a die. Lubricants are applied to reduce friction and ensure smooth movement.

After extrusion, aluminum profiles are rapidly cooled, or quenched, using air or water sprays. Quenching preserves structural integrity and minimizes deformation.

• Direct extrusion: Billet and ram move in the same direction through the die; suitable for complex profiles.
• Indirect extrusion: The die moves toward the stationary billet, reducing friction and energy consumption.
• Hydrostatic extrusion: The billet is submerged in pressurized fluid, minimizing friction.
• Hot extrusion: Preheated billets allow easier material flow.
• Cold extrusion: Performed at room temperature, improving strength and hardness.

• Billet preheater: Heats billets to ensure ductility without melting.
• Hydraulic press: Provides the force (up to 7500 tons) needed for extrusion.
• Die: Shapes the aluminum into desired cross-sectional profiles.
• Output table and cooling system: Guides and quenches extruded profiles to prevent sagging or deformation.
• Stretching and sawing system: Stretches profiles to remove internal stress and cuts them to specific lengths.
